Matthew 5:5 – “You’re blessed when you’re content with just who you are – no more, no less. That’s the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can’t be bought.

Matthew 23:12 – If you puff yourself up, you’ll get the wind knocked out of you. But if you’re content to simply be yourself, your life will count for plenty.

1Corinthians 3:3 – As long as you grab for what makes you feel good or makes you look important, are you really much different than a babe at the breast, content only when everything’s going your way?

Philippians 4:11 – Actually, I don’t have a sense of needing anything personally. I’ve learned by now to be quite content whatever my circumstances.

Colossians 3:4 – When Christ (your real life, remember) shows up again on this earth, you’ll show up, too – the real you, the glorious you. Meanwhile, be content with obscurity, like Christ.

Collossians 3:13 – Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you.

Over and over again, the bible beseeches its followers to be content.  Content.  It’s an elusive concept.  How does one find contentment?

Some would say that the strongest command to be content comes in the exhortation “Be still, and know that I am GOD.”

When you find yourself going down a strange career path (see previous post) that seems to be leading nowhere, Be still, and know that He is GOD.

When you live in a city you love, fulfilling a childhood dream, and yet find yourself far from many of those you love, Be still, and know that He is GOD.

When your heart has been broken and that part of a person’s earthly existance that people call a “love life” seems ambiguous at best, Be still, and know that He is GOD.

When you’re out in a strange country fighting a war that seems to be mass confusion over mass distruction, Be still, and know that He is GOD.

When the child you waited so long to have that means more to you than life suddenly perishes without warning, Be still, and know that He is GOD.

When the body that you were given was created with what seems like massive defects that make life painful and sickly, Be still, and know that He is GOD.

Ok, LORD, but how?
